Conversations that Matter with Tracey Spicer

Navigating society’s future and exploring biases in Artificial Intelligence

In one of the most thought-provoking presentations you’ll see this year, Tracey Spicer will be sharing some of the stories from her latest book “Man Made” on the topic of bias built into the frameworks of technologies such as AI.

“Mum, I want a robot slave.”

Broadcaster Tracey Spicer had an epiphany when her young son uttered these six words. More than just the innocent words of a child, they led her to ponder the point of agitating to change the present, when many of society’s issues are being embedded into our futures through technology.

AI is at the forefront of innovation, influencing industries, shaping our daily lives, and in many ways, making work easier. However, as with all new innovations, AI is also raising questions about ethics and the future of humanity. At the latest instalment of the Conversations that Matter event, Tracey Spicer, a renowned journalist and author, will generously tell her story of how she has overcome gender biases in her career and how these biases have been entrenched in the thinking that’s gone into the foundations of AI programming.

Importantly, while these are issues that need to be discussed (hence ‘Conversations That Matter), AI is not to be feared. As you will learn, we just need to approach it with our eyes and minds open in order to harness its full potential.
